Pimple Popping - Learn To Do It Right

By

The practice of pimple popping has become commonplace. This is due in part, as the thought of facing society with a pimple-filled face is one of the most embarrassing things imaginable, especially if you're a teenager. When you try to have a conversation with someone, you feel as if they are staring at your pimples and could not care less about the words that are coming out of your mouth.

When you contemplate the use of creams, gels, pills and other methods of acne treatment, they are effective no doubt, but in your mind they take way too long to work and never provide an immediate solution.

Therefore, when you have a date, its graduation day, or you just want to take a trip to another country and there is a huge pimple on your forehead, naturally the first thought that crosses the mind is the urge to pop that zit.

Well, hold up and don’t do it yet because pimple popping is a procedure that should be hygienic, controlled and methodical.

Pimples basically result from a bacterial infection that occurs under the skin, due to a build-up of excess oil, dead skin cells, dirt, germs, and debris. When the pimple is popped, the skin's surface is exposed to the outside environment making it more susceptible to bacterial invasion and further infection.

In addition, when you pop pimples the wrong way, the infection that is displaced from its original site can spread to the neighboring areas of the skin. When the infection grows, this allows the bacteria to settle into those other areas and cause breakouts. In short, if you pop a pimple the wrong way, you are inviting the eruption of more to occur.

Before you begin, carefully observe the pimple and its location, check for pus, and if the area can easily be accessed. Pimples located in the creases of the nose or at the lips sometimes cannot be accessed fully. Therefore, it is better to leave them alone, seek the assistance of a professional esthetician or a dermatologist.

Now gently massage the area adjacent to the pimple. This helps to improve the circulation around it which will result in better healing. The massage should not be done with clean, bare hands. It is better to not have long nails because the chances of a pimple being hit by a nail and becoming infected is higher. If you have long nails, be sure to wear surgical gloves to protect your skin.

To begin the process of pimple popping, stand before a mirror and place your forefingers on either sides of the pimple. Gently pull your fingers apart to keep your skin taut and then gently press them towards the pimple until you see the pus or the transparent liquid slowly ooze out. You can use tissue-wrapped fingers, cotton balls, gauze, or even a clean soft cloth to collect the pus.

When your pimple popping session is over, you can release the traction of the skin and dab the area around the pimple with an antiseptic to avoid infection.

I thought it was like a blister - Just leave it alone! :) Usually the results are better if I leave it alone than if I pop it and am left with a red, tender mark :( Thanks for the Hub!
